GMC Chamberfest returns to Rohnert Park in June
The second annual GMC Chamberfest, a five-day celebration of the music of Mozart, Schubert and Mendelssohn, will return June 22-26 to the Green Music Center in Rohnert Park.
Under the artistic direction of pianist and conductor Jeffrey Kahane, the festival will feature six chamber music concerts in Schroeder Hall and a finale concert of four Mozart concerti in Weill Hall with the Santa Rosa Symphony.
In addition to Kahane, the roster of musicians includes pianist Jon Kimura Parker, The Miró Quartet, violinist Bejamin Beilman, cellist Hai-Ye Ni and clarinetist David Shifrin.
“In addition to welcoming back some of last year’s stars ... we are thrilled to be joined by several new faces who also rank among the world’s premier chamber musicians,” Kahane said in a press release. “This year’s festival will be devoted to over 20 glorious masterpieces by Mozart, Schubert and Mendelssohm, culiminating in a thrilling afternoon featuring four sublime concertos by Mozart for a variety of different instruments.”
Musical highlights include Schubert’s “Trout” Quintet and “Quartettsatz,” Mendelssohn’s Octet for Strings, Mozart’s Horn Quintet and several works for two pianists.
The finale concert, conducted by Kahane, features Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto in A Major, Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola in E-Flat Major, Horn Concerto No. 1 in D Major, and Concerto No. 10 for Two Pianos in E-Flat Major, performed by Kahane and Parker.
