Maestro, science educator to talk at ieSonoma

ieSonoma 2016, a collaborative speaking series between the Sonoma County Office of Education, SSU and the Sonoma Country Day School, will host conductor Ben Zander on June 9 at Weill Hall and science evangelist Ainissa Ramirez on June 10 at the Jackson Theater, Sonoma Country Day School.|

Ben Zander, conductor of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, and Ainissa Ramirez, a leading science educator, will talk about leadership and innovation June 9 and 10 as part of the ieSonoma 2016 speaking series.

The British-born Zander will speak on creativity and leadership at 5:30 p.m. June 9 at the Green Music Center’s Weill Hall, on the Sonoma State University campus in Rohnert Park.

Zander is passionate about classical music and co-wrote “The Art of Possibility,” a book about how to bring creativity to all human endeavors. A reception will follow the talk.

Ramirez, who has a Ph.D. in materials science and engineering, will speak on “Our Sputnik Moment in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math) Education” at 8 a.m. June 10 at the Jackson Theater at Sonoma Country Day School in Santa Rosa.

Ramirez will be joined by a panel of six local teachers, students and community innovators who will share their inspirational stories.

The 2016 series is the fourth annual collaboration between the Sonoma County Office of Education, SSU and the Sonoma Country Day School.
