The famed New York jazz club Blue Note will open its newest branch Oct. 25 in downtown Napa, with a three-day engagement featuring Grammy Award-winning trumpeter Chris Botti.

The club will be housed in the Napa Valley Opera House, where the City Winery nightclub hosted a wide range of pop music acts from 2013 to 2015.

Blue Note, which is celebrating its 35th anniversary in New York this year, also has clubs in Beijing, Milan, Honolulu and Washington, D.C., as well as Osaka and Nagoya, Japan.

Botti will perform Oct. 25-27 in the newly renovated Blue Note Napa space on the first floor of the opera house and again Oct. 28 in the second-floor Opera House Ballroom.

“With the iconic Blue Note Jazz Club downstairs and a wide variety of phenomenal shows upstairs, Blue Note Napa is excited to bring a vibrant performing arts center to the Napa Valley Opera House,” Ken Tesler, the venue's managing director and producer, said in a statement released Thursday. “We are as serious about our food as we are about our music and will soon be announcing our culinary and management team.”

The opera house, which originally opened in 1880, lay dormant for almost 90 years until a community effort restored and reopened the building in 2003.

After a decade of financial struggles, the nonprofit that operates the venue contracted with City Winery, which has outlets in New York and Chicago, to operate a nightclub there. In the second year of the enterprise, Michael Dorf, founder of the City Winery clubs, asked to be released from the contract, citing financial losses.
