Bay Area "Hamilton" fans hoping to use their American Express cards Monday to score tickets to the smash musical's San Francisco performances a week before they went on sale to the general public were faced with lots and lots and lots of competition.

Prior to selling out around 2 p.m. as many as 88,000 eager theater lovers waited in queue, warned they'd be waiting more than an hour for the chance to buy the golden tickets. Even after that long test of their patience though, tickets, which range in price from $197-$524 a piece, weren't guaranteed.

The Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning musical, which tells the story of the founding fathers, brings its national tour to the city's 2,200-seat Orpheum Theatre in March.

Tickets go on sale to the general public on Dec. 12. Try your luck here.
