Sonoma County Blues Festival in Rohnert Park adds art show?

The long-established Sonoma County Blues Festival takes on a new dimension this year, with a juried art show to complement the festival’s day of live music.

Redubbed the Sonoma County Blues & Arts Festival, the event runs from 2 to 8:30 p.m., Saturday at the SOMO Village Event Center in Rohnert Park.

Kathleen McCallum - a longtime North Bay artist, arts advocate and event producer - has joined the festival as director of the art show.

“I’m thrilled to help incorporate the visual arts into this great blues festival,” McCallum said.

“The juried art show features award-winning artists.”

The 20 artists participating in the show include:

Lewis Bangham, who teaches at the Art Academy University in San Francisco,

Michael Palace, who makes furniture from recycled wood, and won first-, second- and third-place awards at the Marin fair.

Ken Berman, an artist and architect who helped design mobile shelters for the homeless, displayed in an exhibit titled “A Place to Call Home” at the Paul Mahder Gallery ?in Healdsburg earlier this ?year.

Julie Higgins from Mendocino. whose work is on display at the Girl in the Fig restaurant in Sonoma.

The juror of the art show is Jerrold Ballaine, painter, sculptor, educator and Professor Emeritus of Art at University of California Berkeley, where he taught from 1966 to 1994.
