Nightbeats: KRSH Radio hosts free Sonoma County Super Jam concert

Nighbeats: Get the inside info on free Sonoma County Super Jam show, plus coming Nef the Pharaoh, Weezer concerts|

Have you ever looked through the CDs at Oliver’s Market as you wait to check out? The section features a large number of amazing local musicians. Among them, you’ll find “Sonoma County Super Jam.” The album is a collection of songs from local artists recorded at the Redwood Cafe in Cotati by Prairie Sun Recording, a recording studio built on an old 10-acre chicken ranch.

Summer might be coming to a close, but it’s not too late for a party in a backyard with some of the featured musicians on the CD. If you’re not familiar with the Krush Backyard Concert series, it’s a lineup of free shows put on by local radio station KRSH, “The Krush” 95.9 FM, that are held outdoors in the station’s big backyard. This summer’s series continues through Sept. 21.

On Aug. 10, the radio station hosted notable acts Lungs & Limbs, and Kingsborough. The “Sonoma County Super Jam” lineup for the upcoming Thursday concert includes Volker Strifler, Danny Sorentino, Levi Lloyd, Kevin Russell, Donny Mederos, Stephanie Salva, Kirby Pierce, Chris Lushington and many more.

Musical acts perform on an outdoor wooden deck which gives the shows an intimate vibe. You can watch the performances while sitting on the grassy field and get comfortable by bringing your own blanket or a low-backed lawn chair to sit on. The shows are kid- and pet-friendly, too, so you can ditch the babysitter or snuggle up with your pup.

Bay Area in the House - Vallejo sprouted a number of legendary rappers like Mac Dre and E-40. The region holds a significant place in the history of the rap community because those rappers inspired a whole new generation of young rap artists, including Tonee Hayes, known “Nef The Pharaoh.”

The rapper proudly explains his roots with songs such as “Bitch I’m From Vallejo,” in which he talks about both the good and bad parts about growing up in that area. The song is catchy, yet real and tells a story.. It attracted E-40’s attention and led the legendary rapper to sign Hayes to his record label “Sick Wid It.”

If you haven’t already heard Hayes, you might recognize his flows from his guest appearances in E-40 songs “Slappin” and “707” or his collaboration with Snoop Dogg and Too Short “Toss it.”

You can catch the rapper for yourself at The Phoenix Theater in Petaluma this month on the “Sick Wid It New Generation Tour.”

When: 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26.

Where: Phoenix Theater, 201 Washington St., Petaluma.

Admission: $20.

Early Bird Alert - Safeway, golf and Weezer. I’d never thought I’d say those words in one sentence. Yet the Safeway Open Concert Series brings all of them together. The concert series follows The Safeway Open PGA TOUR event at Silverado Resort and Spa on Oct. 4-8 with a concert series Oct. 5-6.

For its first year, the series featured X Ambassadors, Charles Kelley from Lady Antebellum and Third Eye Blind. Now, for its second year, the lineup includes Weezer, Goo Goo Dolls and Gavin DeGraw. You may remember DeGraw if you’ve ever binge-watched the TV series “One Tree,” since he wrote the theme song, “I Don’t Want to Be.”

Both events are held at Silverado Resort and Spa, a luxury resort in Napa, and are both included with your ticket purchase. The series essentially fuses wine, tasty food and live music with world-class golfers.

While I don’t follow golf, spending a day watching a tournament while drinking beer with friends doesn’t sound like a bad way to gear up for Weezer. If that sounds like a horrible idea, who cares, if it means Weezer is coming to town?

Even if you show up late, you still get to watch a phenomenal band that’s sold 9.2 million rock albums in the U.S. and more than 17 million records worldwide.

When: 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6.

Where: Silverado Resort and Spa, 1600 Atlas Peak Road, Napa.

Admission: $30-75.
