Local actor and director Sheri Lee Miller named supervisor of Spreckels Performing Arts Center

Sheri Lee Miller, an actor and theater director long familiar to Sonoma County audiences, has been named the new supervisor of the Spreckels Performing Arts Center in Rohnert Park and artistic director of the Spreckels Theatre Company.

She follows Gene Abravaya, who had been with the center since 2000 and retired earlier this year.

Miller, 59, has held leadership positions at several Bay Area nonprofit arts organizations over the past two decades, most recently as operations manager for Mill Valley Philharmonic.

She has served as managing director at Main Stage West in Sebastopol, general manager of Napa Valley College Performing Arts Center and director of marketing and education at the Cinnabar Theater in Petaluma.

As a professional director and actor, she has worked the Seattle Rep and A Contemporary Theater (ACT) in Seattle. Locally, she has directed and acted at the 6th Street Playhouse in Santa Rosa, Cinnabar, Main Stage West, Spreckels and others.

“Every experience I had at Spreckels was a joyous one,” Miller said in a statement released this week. “Those experiences are what made me want to step in and continue what Gene had so brilliantly begun.”

Her work also has included television commercials, voice-overs, industrial films and print ads. She is a member of Actors Equity Association and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. She holds a bachelor’s degree in drama from San Diego State University.
