Santa Rosa teen to compete on ‘The Voice’

Already known to Sonoma County fans for live shows, social media and radio work, 17-year-old Dallas Caroline will appear on the NBC singing contest's upcoming season.|

Santa Rosa singer-songwriter and model Dallas Caroline Dueñas, 17, whose stage name is Dallas Caroline, will perform during the 14th season of NBC-TV’s singing competition series “The Voice,” which premieres at 8 p.m. Monday.

Caroline has 69,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, where she has released several songs, including her version of Meghan Trainor’s “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” in 2016 and a six-track EP in 2017, featuring “Mad Love” by JoJo and “Love on the Brain” by Rihanna.

Despite her youth, Caroline is already a seasoned performer, and sang her own original songs at the Country Music Festival in Nashville last June. She also has performed at the HopMonk Taverns in Sebastopol and Sonoma.

She has made a specialty of singing the national anthem, performing it at the Country Summer Music Festival in Santa Rosa for the past three years the July 4 Red and White and Boom celebration in 2012, both at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds, and a San Francisco Giants game in 2015.

Caroline appears regularly on “Write-a-Song Wednesday with Rob & Joss” on local country radio station Froggy 92.9 FM, and has been featured on KZST.

Caroline, who was home-schooled, completed her high school education last summer, shortly before starting “The Voice” audition process. She has modeled for print advertising for companies including Old Navy.

Lisa Bustamante, a Los Angeles publicist for “The Voice,” said contestants aren’t allowed to speak to the press until their blind auditions have aired on the show. No information is currently available on which episode will feature Caroline, Bustamonte said.

The series stars Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Alicia Keys and new addition Kelly Clarkson as coaches for the contestants. Winners are chosen by television viewers voting by telephone, internet, SMS text, and iTunes Store purchases of the audio-recorded artists’ vocal performances. Winning contestants receive $100,000 and a record deal with Universal Music Group.
