Diana Krall, Travis Tritt top Summer at the Green 2019 lineup at Green Music Center

The Green Music Center in Rohnert Park plans a packed summer of music, movies and more. Take a look at what's in store.|

It’s time to get out the lawn chairs and the picnic baskets, the straw hats and the govino wine glasses. The Green Music Center has announced a sizzling lineup for its Summer at the Green 2019, with 12 concerts July through September featuring genres that appeal to a wide range of musical tastes.

Highlights range from the funky beat of Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue and the smoky crooning of Diana Krall to wunderkind Chris Thile’s “Live from Here” radio show and the Southern-rock powerhouse of Travis Tritt & The Charlie Daniels Band.

This summer, accessible and family-friendly fare will be plentiful. The Free Movies at the Green will return for four evenings, including a Disney double feature of the 30th anniversary screening of “The Little Mermaid” paired with the new, live-action “Aladdin” (2019) on Aug. 10.

Also, the Santa Rosa Symphony will present a film with live orchestra, performing John Williams’ epic score to a screening of the 1981 blockbuster, “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” on Aug. 24.

“Summer at the Green is always a unique experience, and this year may be our most exciting summer to date,” said Jacob Yarrow, executive director of the Green Music Center. “The great musicians will combine with the beauty of Sonoma County for unforgettable concerts.”

The county’s rugged beauty will be celebrated most visibly at the annual Free Community Concert - entitled “The Four Seasons of Sonoma County” - presented by Sonoma State University and the Santa Rosa Symphony on July 28.

Under new Music Director Francesco Lecce-Chong, the concert will offer a multimedia pairing of Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons” concertos with landscape photographs of Sonoma County.

For the community engagement project, residents are invited to enter a juried photo contest, and the winning photographs will be displayed on screens during Vivaldi’s iconic ode to nature, which will also showcase soloists from the symphony.

“These concertos were the most innovative and groundbreaking music of their time - 300 years later, they will feel as fresh and vibrant as ever against the backdrop of our own surroundings,” Lecce-Chong said in a press release. “I look forward to this celebration of music, nature and our unique community.”

With the help of the Museum of Sonoma County, the photo contest will accept entries through 5 p.m. May 3. For contest rules and to submit photos, go to museumsc.org/photo-contest.

Each entrant may submit up to 12, high-resolution, digital images and is encouraged to include selections from all four seasons.

The season also includes the return of some local favorites, such as the Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular and the Bluegrass & Craft Beer Festival, which features the Steep Canyon Rangers. However, there will be no Blues on the Green concert this summer, a popular event in the past.

During the summer, the rear wall of Weill Hall on the Sonoma State University campus will be opened onto the terraced Weill Lawn behind it. Seating is available both inside the concert hall and outdoors with table and lawn seating. Lawn patrons can bring blankets and low-back folding chairs and pack a picnic.

For all summer performances, lawn tickets are $25, $10 for SSU students and $12.50 for children ages 2 to 12.

Tickets to the general public go on sale at 10 a.m. April 18. To reserve: 707-664-4246 or gmc.sonoma.edu. Tickets to the Free Community Concert will be available July 9.
