Details emerge in Santa Rosa man’s cliff fall death

Officials say three men who plunged 250 to 300 feet over the weekend likely crawled through a hole in a fence.|

A Santa Rosa man who fell to his death from a cliff near Daly City early Saturday is thought to have crawled through a hole in a fence right before the accident, according to the Coast Guard.

Sean Carrington, 29, was with two other men at a small neighborhood park called Palisades Park. While the park overlooks the Pacific, there is no beach access, and a chain link fence runs along the ocean side of the park.

“They crawled through and then fell,” said Coast Guard Command Duty Officer Joe Ford. “We have no idea why they went through the fence.”

The three men fell about 250 to 300 feet to the beach below around 4:30 a.m. Saturday.

When local emergency crews and the Coast Guard responded, they found two of the men had suffered serious injuries, according to North County Fire Authority spokesman Klaus Zalinskis. But Carrington, he said, died at the scene.

The names of the two injured men and their conditions were not released, but Ford said at least one man suffered a broken leg.
