Mother's Day events happening this weekend

Wine Country happenings that will make mom feel special.|

There’s the “breakfast in bed” and the “take Mom out to brunch” strategies, both sure to please on Mother’s Day.

But what if your mom is more into baby goats or heirloom roses, music or cooking? We combed through the Wine Country to find some fun Mother’s Day activities to consider in your quest to make mom feel like queen for a day.

Farm and garden

Canvas Ranch in West Petaluma will host an old-fashioned farm day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 10, featuring farm tours, babydoll lambs and cashmere goats, kids’ activities and an art studio tour. The open house costs $5 for adults and $3 for kids. 755 Tomales Rd. 766-7171. No dogs allowed, but feel free to bring a blanket and a picnic.

Redwood Hill Farm in Sebastopol is hosting its annual Spring Farm Tours from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday, May 9 and 10. The Russian River Rose Company in Healdsburg will open its blooming arches and allees from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, May 9 and 10, in honor of Mother’s Day. Enjoy the antique roses in full bloom, and pick out a rose bush to purchase for Mom. All mothers receive a special surprise on Sunday. Donation of $2 appreciated. 1685 Magnolia Dr. 433-7455.

A taste of Wine Country

Relish Culinary Adventures in Healdsburg will hold a scrumptious brunch class from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, May 10, in honor of Mother’s Day. Spend the day hands-on with mom, creating seasonal bites like Eggs Florentine with Fresh Crab and Crepes with Fresh Berries and Lavender Honey. $104 each, includes 2 glasses of wine. 14 Matheson St., Healdsburg. relishculinary.com. 431-9999.

Ramekins Cooking School in Sonoma will serve moms and their families a special brunch with seatings at 10 a.m. and noon on Sunday, May 10. The Tudor Rose English Tea Room in Santa Rosa will serve a Mother’s Day High Tea on May 9 and 10. The Queen Victoria menu, truly fit for a queen, includes assorted tea sandwiches, a scone with jam and cream, individual quiche, sausage roll, cream puff and an endless pot of tea. Wow her at the wineries

Rosé and a crostini: What better way to toast mom than with a glass of crisp, refreshing rosé? Wine and barbecue: Treat mom to a delicious, slow-cooked barbecue paired with sparkling wines from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, May 10, at Gloria Ferrer Champagne Caves in Sonoma. The barbecue buffet includes beef brisket, pork spare ribs, barbecue chicken, black beans, potato salad, mixed green salad and dinner rolls. Music by a live blues band provides the backdrop. Sweet music and laughter

Galician bagpiper Christina Pato, a member of Yo-Yo Ma’s celebrated Silk Road Ensemble, has traced the six-beat rhythmic pattern of Latin music from its roots in Europe to its new home in South America. Fresh off her new recording, “Latina,” she and her jazz-folkloric band, Migrations, will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 10, at the Green Music Center’s Schroeder Hall. The Jack London Piano Club will present a piano concert devoted to American composer George Gershwin at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 10, at the House of Happy Walls at Jack London State Historic Park in Glen Ellen. Congregation Shomrei Torah in Santa Rosa will bring its performance series to a close at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 9, with an original comedy about motherhood, “The Mama-logues.” The performance was written and produced by congregation member Laurie Levy.
