Celebrate Memorial Day and honor those US service men and women who gave their lives with these commemorative events around Sonoma County.MONDAY, MAY 29Santa Rosa: Starting at 10 a.m., attend the 46th Annual Avenue of the Flags, a commemorative event at Santa Rosa Memorial Park that includes 1,000 flags, musicians, displays and other activities, hosted by Santa Rosa Memorial Park and sponsored by the American Legion Post 21 and United States Marine Corps League Detachment 686. Then at noon, continue the celebration with refreshments and a presentation at the Rural Cemetery, followed by tours of veterans' graves. srmp.orgPetaluma: Starting at 11 a.m. at Cyprus Hill Memorial Park, a ceremony will include the traditional Avenue of the Flags and appearances by guest speakers, members of the City Council, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Eagle Scouts and a Color Guard.

Cotati: First started by the American Legion/Cotati Post #103, the Rohnert Park Boy Scouts are continuing the tradition of raising the American Flags this Memorial Day at the Cotati Memorial Building, plus presenting a short program. Join them 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. to remember local veterans. 8505 Park Ave, Cotati.Sonoma: The 59th annual Sonoma Valley Joint Memorial Day Observance, coordinated by numerous veterans' organizations in Sonoma Valley, starts at 11 a.m. at the Sonoma Veterans Memorial Park, 126 First St. West. Events include a grand march and a keynote address by Sonoma Valley High grad U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander Joshua Overn, plus a free picnic lunch of hamburgers and hot dogs. Windsor: Shiloh District Cemetery and The American Legion Sotoyome Post 111 will hold their Memorial Day Ceremonies starting at noon, 7130 Windsor Rd., Windsor.

Cloverdale: Memorial Day Ceremony, hosted by the American Legion William Russell Ledford Post 293, Sons of the American Legion Squadron 293 and VFW Ray Zittleman Post 9268, begins at 10 a.m. Monday in front of the Veterans Memorial at Cloverdale's Riverside Cemetery on Crocker Road. Everyone welcome. 894-2419.Calistoga: American Legion Post 231 will hold its annual ceremony honoring Civil War veterans at 9:30 a.m. at Pioneer Cemetery on Foothill Boulevard. Then, they will hold a traditional Memorial Day ceremony honoring 23 individuals at the veterans memorial in Logvy Community Park, 1401 N. Oak St., at 11 a.m.Other Memorial Day events: Memorial Day at the Pacific Coast Air Museum: On Saturday, meet 30 local war heroes and see vintage aircraft at this free event. The day includes a chance to see inside the cockpit of an aircraft, learn about Veteran's experiences and honor those who have served.
