Events rescheduled, canceled in wake of Sonoma County wildfires

In the wake of recent wildfires, as many people still struggle to clear the wreckage and get back into evacuated areas, a wave of event cancellations and postponements continues to sweep across the Sonoma County arts and entertainment scene.

Some venues that were spared from the flames still are not ready to reopen. In some cases, the effects of the fire on venue employees and arts volunteers have forced cancellations and postponements. Other venues continue to serve as shelters for evacuees who have lost their homes. Other venues are concerned about their audiences because of lingering smoke from the fires.

Please check venue websites for further schedule updates, and instructions on getting refunds for prepaid tickets on canceled events.

Here is the latest round of cancellations and changes:

Lagunitas Beer Circus - The Petaluma brewery has canceled its popular annual event, which was to have been Saturday at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds. For full refunds, contact the organizers today at bawx.ophiss@lagunitas.com. You also have the option of donating the price of your prepaid ticket to fire relief efforts.

Tolay Fall Festival - The two-weekend outdoor family event, scheduled to run through Sunday at Tolay Regional Park southeast of Petaluma, has been canceled. http://parks.sonomacounty.ca.gov/

Santa Rosa Junior College - The Santa Rosa campus will remain closed through Sunday.

Luther Burbank Center for the Arts - The main theater building remains intact, but has not reopened yet. All events are canceled through Nov. 5. New dates for any events that can be rescheduled will be announced as they are confirmed. 707-546-3600, lutherburbankcenter.org

Left Edge Theatre - The theater troupe, one of several housed at Luther Burbank Center, has indefinitely postponed its production of “Bakersfield Mist,” previously scheduled to open Nov. 3, with new dates to be announced. 707-546-3600, leftedgetheatre.com

Young Actors Studio - The youth theater group, also housed at Luther Burbank Center, reports its space is still intact but has changed its schedule for safety reasons. The group had planned to open “Into the Woods” at the center last weekend, and then move the show to the Raven Performing Arts Theater in Healdsburg this weekend. New dates will be announced.

Green Music Center - Pianist Peter Serkin has canceled his concert at Weill Hall tonight, because of illness. A representative said the pianist was recovering from severe pneumonia and bronchitis, and was concerned about poor air quality in the North Bay Area due to the recent fires. gmc.sonoma.edu. 6th Street Playhouse - The theater’s production of “Steel Magnolias,” originally scheduled to open last week, will open at 7:30 tonight, with a reception for audience members and the cast following the performance. 707-523-4185, 6thstreetplayhouse.com

Main Stage West - David Templeton’s original play, “Mary Shelley’s Body” - directed by Beth Craven and starring Sheri Lee Miller - was scheduled to open last weekend, but was delayed until Thursday, and is scheduled to run Thursday through Sunday until Oct. 29. 707-823-0177, mainstagewest.com

Pegasus Theater Company - The troupe’s production of “It’s All Relative,” previously slated to open Nov. 3 in Graton, has been postponed until further notice. 707-583-2343, pegasustheater.com

Petaluma Film Alliance - The Oct. 18 screening of “The Graduate” was postponed to Nov. 8. The alliance’s Fall Cinema Series screens films at 7 p.m. Wednesdays in the Carole Ellis Auditorium on the Petaluma campus of Santa Rosa Junior College. petalumafilmalliance.org

Sonoma Valley Museum of Art - Downtown Sonoma fine arts museum has put two exhibits originally scheduled to open Oct. 14 on indefinite hold. New dates for “David Ligare: Magna Fide (The Great Belief)” and “Forge and Stone: Work by Contemporary California Women Sculptors” will be announced as soon as possible. 707-939-7862, svma.org
