The Santa Rosa Symphony has appointed four new members to its 38-member board of directors, including three from the community and one from the orchestra.
The new appointees include Eileen Carlisle and Mark Jacobson of Santa Rosa, Betha MacClain of Sebastopol and orchestra representative Jay Zhong of Napa.
A native of Fargo, N.D., Carlisle joined IBM in 1976 as one of their earliest female sales reps and has worked in sales and management for Eastman Kodak in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. She is currently a financial adviser with Stifel Nicolaus.
MacClain grew up in Southern California and moved to the Bay Area to study at UC Berkeley, where she earned a master’s degree in educational leadership.
She worked as a grant coordinator and visual arts teacher in the Art Quest program at Santa Rosa High School and recently took the position of principal at Jack London Elementary School in Santa Rosa.
Another native of Fargo, N.D., Jacobson grew up playing piano and kept it up through medical school at the University of Iowa. He began practicing medicine in Santa Rosa in 1987 and has been on the staff of Santa Rosa’s Kaiser Hospital since 2007, where he currently serves as assistant chief of ophthalmology.
A native of Beijing, China, Zhong was born into a musical family and started to study violin at age 4. At age 13, he came to New York to study under the famous Russian pedagogue Raphael Bronstein. Zhong joined the Santa Rosa Symphony in 2011 as Associate Concertmaster.
In addition to Board President James Hinton, officers for the coming year include Vice-President Sara Woodfield; Treasurer Harry Rubins; and Secretary Linda Castiglioni.
