The Healdsburg Jazz Festival marks its 20th anniversary June 1-10 this year with 10 days of live jazz music at venues in both Healdsburg and Santa Rosa, welcoming back many of the jazz stars who have contributed to the festival’s success over the past two decades.

The celebration opens with a duet performance by top guitarists Bill Frisell and Julian Lage, and pioneering jazz saxophonist and clarinetist Charles Lloyd will celebrate his 80th birthday during the festival, performing tabla master Zakir Hussain and others.

A trio featuring saxophonist Ravi Coltrane, bassist Dave Holland and drummer Terri Lyne Carrington will offer a tribute to the late pianist Geri Allen.

The festival also features two of the top clarinetists in jazz: Anat Cohen, who will play with the Brazilian band Trio da Paz, and Dr. Michael White, closing the festival with his seven-piece Original Liberty Jazz Band from New Orleans.

Three piano trios, led by Fred Hersch, Marc Cary and George Cables, will perform at the festival. Other combos to be featured include drummer Lorca Hart’s trio, the Chris Amberger Trio and Cosa Nostra Strings, led by trombonist Adam Theis. John Santos his sextet will perform “A Puerto Rico Mi Amor.”

Emcee Infinite, also known as Carlos Aguirre, will deliver a spoken-word performance.

The final weekend of the festival will include a show the Festival All-Stars, featuring saxophonists Bobby Watson, Azar Lawrence and Chico Freeman, trumpeter David Weiss, percussionist Babatunde Lea and drummer Billy Hart and others.

Also look for a show by 100-voice Freedom Choir led by Marcus Shelby, with singer Ruth Naomi Floyd and guest conductor and composer James Newton, as well as Marcus’ Big Band.
