Three people were sent to the hospital with moderate to major injuries following a head-on crash Monday night on Petaluma Hill Road, Rincon Valley Acting Battalion Chief Mark Dunn said.

The two-car collision was reported shortly after 5:30 p.m. just north of Hopi Trail.

A Jeep Liberty and Ford Expedition struck each other and ended up on the side of the road, Dunn said. CHP officers found that both cars were going between 45 and 50 mph at the time. Michael Muldrew, 38, of Rohnert Park was driving the Ford southbound and did not properly negotiate a turn. He crossed into oncoming traffic and struck the Jeep, driven by Elizabeth Strickland, 35, of Rohnert Park.

Strickland suffered the worst injuries, including fractures to both of her arms and her legs as well as possible internal injuries, Dunn said. She was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital to be treated for major but not life-threatening injuries, CHP Officer Jon Sloat said.

Her passenger, Kevin Vaughan, 33, of Santa Rosa also had a possible broken femur, Dunn said.

Muldrew had injuries to his lower leg and hip, Rancho Adobe Fire Capt. Tim Caldwell said.

Medics also took Vaughan and Muldrew to Memorial Hospital.

Alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the crash, Sloat said.
