Vaqueros, traders and soldiers will return today to the Petaluma Adobe, the

original Casa Grande, or big house.

Volunteers wearing authentic costumes from California circa 1840 will be on

hand for Living History Day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Petaluma Adobe State

Historic Park, 3325 Adobe Road, Petaluma.

Frontier crafts will be demonstrated, and historical skits performed.

Visitors may try their hand making baskets and candles, said Sara Skinner

of the Petaluma Adobe park staff.

The adobe, situated on a knoll about two miles from the Petaluma River, was

the commercial hub of Gen. Mariano Vallejo's North Bay empire.

Admission is $2 for adults, $1 for ages 6 to 16, and free for age 5 and

under. The event will go on rain or shine.
