Fort Bragg man suspected of arson in house fire

A 47-year-old Fort Bragg man was arrested for suspected arson late Tuesday night after a fire at the Sherwood Road home he shared with his brother, the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office said.

Dennis Bailey is suspected of using gasoline to set fire to the house earlier in the evening because he was mad at his brother, sheriff's Capt. Kurt Smallcomb said.

Firefighters noted suspicious burn patterns when they were fighting Tuesday's 8:25 p.m. blaze, Fort Bragg Fire Chief Steve Orsi said.

Fort Bragg police and the sheriff's office became involved, and Bailey was arrested shortly before midnight, Smallcomb said.

The flames were mostly contained to the kitchen and adjoining bathroom but caused heat and smoke damage throughout the structure, Orsi said.
