A Fairfield man who police said has three outstanding arrest warrants in Solano County was arrested early Wednesday on suspicion of trying to break into a home in Petaluma.

Joseph Alan Waters, 37, was arrested in the back of a home on the 3000 block of Cypress Drive just after midnight by Petaluma police officers who were responding to a burglary alarm. Police said Waters was hiding in the bushes behind the house and had burglary tools in his possession.

There was evidence on the back door of the home that someone had tried to open it by force, police said.

Police did not say whether anyone was in the home at the time of the burglary attempt.

Waters was booked into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of attempted burglary, possession of burglary tools and prowling, along with his three previous arrest warrants.
