Richmond resident Jovali Orzoco, found passed out in an illegally parked, stolen car that held items allegedly taken from nearby homes and mailboxes, remained in custody Thursday in the Sonoma County Jail.

Orzoco, 24, was arrested Wednesday after CHP officers found him in a car parked across Burnside Road in rural southern Sebastopol, CHP Officer Jon Sloat said.

It was 6 a.m. and the 1994 Toyota Corolla had no headlights on in the pre-dawn darkness.

Officers reported the man behind the wheel was unconscious. They awakened him and determined he was drunk so arrested him on suspicion of drunken driving.

Inside the car were some empty beer containers. Officers also found a methamphetamine pipe in the man's pocket, Sloat said.

A search of the car turned up mail addressed to different people, as well as a variety of unusual items including a telescope and a lawn mower. They also found a shaved file that could be used to start a car.

An investigation by officers and a Sonoma County sheriff's deputy determined the mail and items had disappeared from homes and mailboxes in the area, Sloat said.

The car turned out to have been stolen on Tuesday from Richmond.

As well as suspected drunken driving, they arrested Orozco on suspicion of car theft, burglary, possessing stolen property, burglary tools and drug paraphernalia.

His was being held in lieu of $40,000 bail.
