Santa Rosa Junior College police arrested a violent parolee after they found him passed out drunk on the school lawn Sunday evening.

An officer was patrolling the area by the SRJC front lawn facing Mendocino Avenue around 5:30 p.m. when he spotted a man lying on the grass, according to SRJC police.

The officer said Leland Pinola Jr., 41 of Santa Rosa, was passed out. The officer said he could smell alcohol and “noticed a Gatorade bottle with an alcoholic beverage within,” according to police.

During a records check, police found Pinola was on parole for gang activity with a violent assault and had an outstanding felony warrant for violating his parole, police said. He is not a SRJC student.

Pinola was arrested on the parole violation and possession of alcohol on school grounds.

He was booked into the Sonoma County Jail and was being held without bail on the parole violation, pending a court hearing Wednesday.
