Man arrested in rape of 17-year-old girl

A young Santa Rosa man was in custody Monday, suspected of raping a 17-year-old girl, Santa Rosa police reported Monday.

The alleged assault occurred at a westside Santa Rosa motel where the teenager, the young man and at least one other person had gone to party, Sgt. John Snetsinger said.

They brought alcohol and marijuana to the room.

"She was to the point where she was so intoxicated she couldn't consent," Snetsinger said.

It was unclear who was in the room during the alleged assault. The victim told police she became aware of what was happening during the act.

She called police late Thursday night from the motel after the man left.

Detectives on Friday arrested Christopher Ortega, 21, on suspicion of rape of a drugged victim incapable of giving consent.

He remained in custody Monday without bail, due to having violated his probation from a prior conviction. Ortega was scheduled to be arraigned in court on the felony charge this afternoon.

Such cases are reported to Santa Rosa police a few times a month, Snetsinger said. They typically involve teenaged girls and large amounts of alcohol and young men or teen boys they know.
