A Suisun City man, who was stopped for reckless driving Sunday in Santa Rosa, was found to have a loaded handgun concealed in his glove compartment, according to the CHP.

Dante Richmond, 38, was arrested on suspicion of DUI, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a loaded and concealed firearm and possession of a controlled substance. He was booked into Sonoma County Jail.

The CHP said an officer saw a black sedan, later determined to be driven by Richmond, entering Highway 101 north near Mendocino Avenue at 9:30 p.m. Sunday night. Richmond, according to the CHP, was clocked at 75 mph before slowing down and weaving. He was pulled over by the CHP at Mark West Springs Road.

According to the CHP, Richmond showed signs of intoxication and kept reaching his hands into his pockets, despite being told not to by the officer.

During a search, the officer found a folding knife in each of Richmond’s front pockets as well as a full magazine for a .40-caliber handgun.

Inside the car, officers found a loaded handgun with a chambered round in the glove compartment, along with a bottle of prescription pain killers for which Richmond did not have a prescription. A records check revealed that Richmond is a felon with a lengthy criminal history.
