The North Bay Electric Auto Association will host an event Saturday to promote electric vehicles.

The National Drive Electric Week event will be one of more than 100 around the country aimed at raising awareness for plug-in cars at a time when EV sales have doubled every year for the past three years.

The Santa Rosa event, Drive Electric Day, will offer rides and test drives of battery electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles. The vehicles expected at this year’s event are the Tesla Model S, Nissan LEAF, Chevy Volt, Chevy Spark EV, BMW i3, Mercedes B-Class Electric Drive, KIA Soul EV and Switch electric vehicle.

Owners of electric vehicles will be on hand to answer any questions about driving them, and representatives from Sonoma Clean Power and the solar industry will be there to provide information about renewable power in Sonoma County. The free event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Coddingtown Mall north parking lot.
