Suspect in Santa Rosa crash arrested in 100 mph chase

A Santa Rosa man arraigned last week in a suspected drug-impaired-?driving crash was arrested as he walked out of a courtroom on charges of leading officers on a high-speed pursuit through Marin County three days earlier.

Mark Hilla, 46, is suspected of driving a white Camaro more than 100?mph and weaving through traffic on Highway 101 near San Rafael on Sept. 13.

The CHP chased him briefly but called it off for safety reasons. He was seen driving into Sausalito, where officers later found his abandoned car, the CHP said Saturday.

He first drew attention to himself by removing a gas nozzle from a woman’s car at a Petaluma gas station and filling his own tank with it, the CHP said.

Hilla handed the woman money before driving off, the CHP said.

Three days later, on Sept. 16, he was suspected of crashing a Chevy pickup into a pole in Santa Rosa at Marlow Road and West Steele Lane.

Police said he fled on foot to a Piner Road shopping center, where he broke a window of a vacant video store by jumping through it.

Hilla was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and resisting arrest.

After his arraignment Wednesday, he was arrested by Marin CHP officers on charges of felony evading and two misdemeanors.
