A 19-year-old Santa Rosa man was arrested early Saturday on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and causing injury following a crash in the east side of the city.
Brian Pipkins was booked into the Sonoma County Jail following the 2:40 a.m. crash on Highway 12 near Cardinal Way east of Mission Boulevard.
Callers told emergency dispatchers they heard screaming, saw smoke and observed someone trying to pull occupants out of a white car that had hit a tree. At the crash, police officers and firefighters found a white 1996 BMW fully engulfed in flames and its four occupants all outside the vehicle.
Two 15-year-old passengers were transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Pipkins was “determined to be under the influence of alcohol,” said a press release prepared by Police Sgt. Lisa Banayat.
Pipkins was in jail Saturday morning in lieu of $100,000 bail, a jail spokesman said.
