An autopsy conducted Monday failed to determine the cause of death for a man whose body was found last week in the Mendocino National Forest near Covelo, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office.

The death of Michael Leon Pina, 52, of Covelo, is “undetermined” at this time, said Sheriff’s Capt. Greg Van Patten. The results of toxicology tests will be available in four to six weeks, he said.

Hunters discovered the body Thursday along Indian Dick Road, a remote forest road, sheriff’s officials said. Officials called the death suspicious.

Pina had not been reported missing, but family members said they had not seen him for several days before his body was found.

Anyone with information about the death is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office tip line at 234-2100 or the Round Valley Tribal Police Department’s tip line at 272-0259.
