Sebastopol police searched an area south of downtown Sebastopol on Wednesday after finding someone had broken into a storage facility business.

Police found a crowbar and some cash on the floor, the cash register drawer standing open and a back door ajar, Sebastopol Lt. James Conner said.

Officers were alerted just before 8 a.m. by an employee of the Southpoint Self-Storage business. The employee had gone to the site to check out the situation after getting a call from an alarm-monitoring service that a door alarm had sounded.

Conner said it was possible the burglar was interrupted by the arrival of the employee, as money apparently was dropped as they left the building.

Officers searched the Southpoint Avenue area, which is off of Highway 116.
