Two pedestrians were struck by vehicles in downtown Cotati on Wednesday in near-simultaneous collisions, fire officials said.

The incidents took place at about 7:30 p.m. about one block apart.

A 66-year-old man was struck by a Chevrolet Suburban in a crosswalk in front of Spancky’s Bar on Old Redwood Highway as he crossed La Plaza, Cotati Police Lt. Bill French said. The initial investigation indicated the motorist, who stopped and was cooperative with investigators, may be at fault, French said.

The man was hit on his right side, suffering pain in his hip, leg, shoulder and abdomen, Rancho Adobe Fire Capt. Pete Albini said. He was taken to Memorial Hospital.

At about the same time, a 42-year-old woman was hit by a Jeep as she crossed La Plaza at East Cotati Avenue, police and fire officials said. The woman, who was in a crosswalk, suffered serious head injuries and was also taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, Albini said. French said the Jeep’s driver was cooperating with police. Officers were still investigating who was at fault in that crash.

The names of the drivers and injured parties weren’t available.
