A suspected drunken driver was arrested in Lake County early Monday morning after leading authorities on a chase that started in a stolen truck and ended when they found him hiding in a golf course pond, Clearlake police said.

Police were first called out for a report of a hit-and-run crash near the intersection of Old Highway 53 and Saroni Parkway just before 5 a.m., according to a press release issued by Clearlake police. Witnesses, they say, described a large white diesel pickup.

A police officer saw such a truck, with front end damage, at a nearby intersection. The truck fled, starting a pursuit where speeds reached 100 mph, police said.

Eventually, the truck crashed through a fence at Hidden Valley Lake and onto the golf course, where it quit running.

The driver, Donald Leos, 19, of Hidden Valley Lake, got out and ran away from police, officers said. He was apprehended in a golf course pond, where he was trying to hide, police said.

The truck Leos was driving had been reported stolen out of Hidden Valley Lake, police said. He was charged with a host of crimes, including felony evading, felony possession of stolen property, and misdemeanor driving under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol.
