A motor home burst into flames early Friday, sending a plume of black smoke into the air north of Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport.

A passer-by reported the fire at about 8:30 a.m. on Windsor Road near Silk Road, Windsor Fire Battalion Chief Matt Gustafson said.

The front of the vehicle was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, Gustafson said. They quickly put out the blaze and determined no one had been inside, he said.

The motor home, an older model possibly from the 1970s or ’80s, was parked in a dirt pullout under an oak tree near vineyards, Gustafson said. It appeared someone had been living there, but firefighters could not locate the vehicle’s owner.

The tree was mildly damaged in the fire.

The motor home was destroyed.
