Man dies after truck flips, lands in Russian River near Jenner

The crash at the south end of town, near Café Aquatica, was reported about 7:50 p.m.|

One person was killed when a truck ran off Highway 1 in Jenner on Thursday night and overturned into the Russian River, authorities said.

The crash happened at the south end of town, near Café Aquatica, at about 7:50 p.m., according to emergency dispatchers.

Witnesses at a gas station nearby said the northbound Toyota 4Runner struck an embankment at about 50 mph and flipped into the river, landing on its roof in about 10 feet of water.

Jenner Sea Store employee Robert McShea said he ran outside and dove into the water to help but could not see anything because the water was too muddy.

“I was trying to get people out,” McShea said.

Crews later pulled the vehicle out and found the body of a male driver strapped into his seat belt, a dispatcher said.

His identity was not immediately available.

Authorities believe there were no other occupants.
