Santa Rosa chase ends with missing driver, drug discovery

A police pursuit through a west Santa Rosa neighborhood ended Thursday after the driver abandoned his car and fled on foot into a shopping center.|

Santa Rosa Police pursued a driver through west Santa Rosa neighborhoods Thursday before the driver abandoned his car and fled on foot into a shopping center. Officers searched the car and found two pounds of marijuana and more than an ounce of methamphetamine.

The incident began with a routine traffic stop for expired tags on the vehicle in the area of West College Avenue at about 3:30 p.m. After the officer activated the overhead lights, the driver fled and the officer pursued.

The driver evaded officers in the area of Jennings Avenue near Marlow Road. A bystander advised officers that the driver drove into the Marlow Shopping Center, abandoned the car and ran through the Round Table Pizza. The driver was not located.
