Seawolves volleyball team headed to Elite Eight

NAMPA, Idaho - The Sonoma State volleyball team earned a four-set victory over Dixie State on Saturday night to capture the NCAA Division II West Region title for the first time in program history.

The Seawolves (23-6) will head to Louisville, Ky., for the NCAA Elite Eight, where they will play Central Region champion Southwest Minnesota State (24-9) in the national quarterfinals on Dec. 4.

The Seawolves’ Kelsey Hull was unstoppable Saturday night, smashing 21 kills and adding 13 digs. Caylie Seitz, the tournament MVP, recorded 19 kills to go along with three blocks, and Madelyn Densberger had 12 kills, 15 digs and four service aces.

Sonoma State is now 1-1 in NCAA West Region finals - the Seawolves lost to Cal State San Bernardino in three sets in 2011.

Southwest Minnesota State won the Central Region after upsetting seven-time defending national champion Concordia-St. Paul on Friday and the region’s top seed, Minnesota Duluth, on Saturday.
