Bodega Highway was closed in both directions for four hours early Sunday morning after a vehicle crashed into a telephone pole near Freestone, according to CHP dispatch.

The crash was reported just before 4 a.m. near the intersection of Bodega and Bohemian highways.

Witnesses reported seeing sparks coming from the downed power lines, which prevented fire and CHP officers from immediately accessing the scene, according to dispatch logs.

The power lines crossed both lanes, forcing traffic to be detoured around the area while Pacific Gas & Electric crews worked to deactivate the lines to allow rescuers to access the vehicle.

The driver, whose name was not available Sunday, was transported to Sonoma County Jail.Officers were investigating the crash as a possible case of driving under the influence, according to dispatch logs.

The road was reopened at about 8 a.m.
