SALINAS — An armed and dangerous Northern California inmate made a jail break by climbing up a ventilation duct and punching out a window.

The Monterey County Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1zF7AE2 ) 23-year-old Freddy Swanson made a Christmas day break and remains at large. A statewide "be on the lookout" bulletin has been issued for his arrest and return to custody.

He was arrested Dec. 19 at a motel in Monterey County, California after a hit-and-run car crash and high-speed chase. He later charged with multiple narcotics and firearms violations. Swanson was awaiting sentencing when he escaped.

Police say he scaled a ventilation duct at a Monterey County Jail, punched out a small window, and climbed onto the roof. He then jumped and escaped the medium-security facility.
