Clearlake pursuit reaches speeds of 100 mph

Police said the driver, arrested Saturday night, was a wanted parolee and the vehicle was reported stolen from Santa Rosa|

Clearlake police arrested a Santa Rosa man Saturday night following a high-speed chase in which several vehicles were damaged.

The pursuit began after a 2013 Nissan that a Clearlake officer stopped in the area of Cottonwood and Walnut Streets at about 8 p.m. Saturday sped away as the officer approached the vehicle.

Dispatch reported that the vehicle had been stolen out of Santa Rosa and that the suspected driver, Henry Hikalea, 33, was on parole, police said.

The Nissan reached speeds of 100 mph as the chase wound through the city of Clearlake, onto State Highway 53 and then back into Clearlake. In the area of Lakeshore Drive and Villa Way, the Nissan driver rammed the vehicle into a patrol car. The chase ended at that point.

Two Clearlake police vehicles and the Nissan were damaged in the incident.

Hikalea was arrested on suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle, felony evading and assault on a police officer. Police said he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
