Sonoma County Vintners will hold its first-ever barrel auction for wine retailers and wholesalers on May 1.

The live auction will feature more than 50 exclusive wine lots that will be produced in limited quantity, ranging from five to 20 cases. The location for the auction has not yet been determined.

Licensed buyers such as wine sellers, retailers, restaurateurs and wholesalers can request a ticket beginning Feb. 2 by contacting Danielle Hollywood at 415-683-0696.

Auction lots will be chosen next month in a blind tasting by a panel of six sommeliers and a masters of wine. Revenues generated by the auction will go to the operating budget of the Sonoma County Vintners, a trade group that represents more than 170 wineries.
