Sonic will begin offering its super-fast fiber optic Internet and phone service in Novato beginning in March, the company announced this week.

Some 2,000 Novato residents will have the option to drop cable service for Sonic’s Gigabit Fiber Internet, which yields speeds of up to 1,000 megabits per second.

“This is the first time Gigabit Fiber Internet will be available in Marin County,” said Sonic CEO and Co-Founder, Dane Jasper. “We’re moving toward the faster, affordable Internet that people in California and across the U.S. deserve.”

Sonic’s package offers Internet and unlimited phone service for $40 a month. The company said the expansion positions Novato as an “epicenter” for booming businesses and growth.

Sonic recently completed a build-out of fiber optic service in the business park near the Sonoma County Airport. Last year, the company completed a fiber optic project in the southwest Santa Rosa office park between Sebastopol Road and Northpoint Parkway.

Sonic has already begun construction in Petaluma on its next fiber project, which targets a significant section of North McDowell Boulevard. It already provides fiber optic service to Sebastopol and has plans to expand the service to more customers there.
