Ukiah police Thursday were investigating the stabbing of a man on South State Street.

An unknown man attacked a 23-year-old man from behind as he walked into a business, Capt. Trent Taylor said.

The attack took place at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Taylor declined to name the business.

The wounded man told police he didn’t know his attacker, Taylor said. He said police did not know if the victim lived locally.

“There’s nothing that we have that indicates it was a robbery,” Taylor said. “The man came up behind him as he was going in.”

The man was treated for wounds to his upper torso at Ukiah Valley Medical Center and released.

Anyone with information about the case can call the Ukiah Police Department at 463-6262.
