A Lakeport man suspected of driving drunk was killed Sunday after he crashed into a fence, the CHP reported.

Jose Pepe Quintero, 38, was driving at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday on Upper Lake Lucerne Road north of Highway 20 when he lost control and ran into a fence.

His 2001 Chevy Camaro traveled along the fence line, hitting several posts. One piece of wood came through the windshield, striking Quintero in the face, the CHP reported.

A passenger, Rafael Cordell Blancas, 41, of Upper Lake, wasn't hurt.

Officers arrested Quintero on suspicion of drunken driving while he was receiving medical treatment for his injuries. The man was flown on a medical helicopter to Sutter-Lakeside Hospital. He died at 6:04 p.m.
