Police: Elsie Allen High School student brought kitchen knife to campus

Santa Rosa police on Wednesday identified the weapon brought by a student onto the Elsie Allen High School campus a day earlier as an 8-inch kitchen knife.

It was found in the backpack of a 15-year-old boy, who had apparently been in a dispute with classmates, Sgt. Lisa Banayat said.

However, the boy didn’t threaten anyone with it or take it out of the backpack, she said.

“He never brandished it,” she said.

Somehow, another student learned the boy had brought a knife to school and word reached school administrators.

The boy was cited on a misdemeanor weapons charge and sent home with a parent, Banayat said.

It was unclear whether he would be suspended or face other discipline.

Santa Rosa police were called to the 1,100-student campus on Bellevue Avenue on Tuesday after receiving a report in the early afternoon.

The school was not locked down over the incident.

Police and school officials initially declined to say what kind of weapon the boy was carrying.
