Rohnert Park switching to LED fixtures for streetlights

City officials say the lights, slated for replacement this summer, will slash energy use by 35 percent.|

Let there be new light in Rohnert Park.

The city this summer will begin replacing more than 800 streetlights with new state-of-the-art LED fixtures spanning most major city streets.

City officials say the lights consume 35 percent less energy than the old lights, last five times as long and produce a higher-quality glow.

The project, which costs $290,000, will be financed by PG&E using a zero percent interest loan. The city will pay the loan back in less than six years through energy savings estimated at $43,000 annually.

The streets where the new lights will be installed include Rohnert Park Expressway, Commerce Boulevard, State Farm Drive, Snyder Lane, Redwood Drive, Business Park Drive, Labath Avenue, Golf Course Drive, Southwest Boulevard, Camino Collegio and East Cotati Boulevard.
