A Mendocino County Sheriff’s deputy is being credited with saving the life of a Fort Bragg man.

Deputy Zemanuel Lima was on patrol Friday when he heard an emergency call for medical assistance on Ocean View Drive in Fort Bragg, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

He responded and found the victim’s wife struggling to provide life-saving measures. The man did not have a pulse, was not breathing and his eyes were fixed and dilated, sheriff’s officials said. Lima began CPR and continued until medical personnel arrived on the scene about five minutes later. He continued to assist for another 20 minutes, at which time the victim revived, officials said.

Medical personnel at the scene and the hospital said that Lima’s timely and effective action saved the victim’s life, sheriff’s officials said.
