Woman's body found at base of Caspar Point cliff in Mendocino County identified

Mendocino County Sheriff’s officials said a body found Wednesday at the base of a cliff was that of a Caspar resident.|

A woman found dead at the base of a steep cliff near Caspar Point on the Mendocino Coast late Wednesday afternoon has been identified as Caspar resident Michelle Mixon, 42.

Nothing uncovered so far by an investigation into her death points to foul play, Mendocino County Sheriff’s officials said Friday.

A preliminary autopsy conducted Thursday found that injuries on Mixon’s body were consistent with a fall, sheriff’s officials said.

Official autopsy results are pending blood alcohol and toxicology results, officials said.

Mixon’s body was found at the bottom of a 70-foot cliff by two young adults hiking the Caspar Headlands shortly before 6 p.m.

Some of her personal belongings were found neatly placed near a tree at the top of the cliff, about 275 feet from where her body was found, sheriff’s officials said.
