Solo Hopland crash sends one passenger to hospital

Officers suspect the driver took a curve too fast, hit a gate and overturned.|

The passenger of a vehicle that overturned near Hopland was airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, CHP officials said.

The collision took place just after 8 p.m. Sunday on Old River Road just north of Highway 175, CHP Officer Marian Pohl said.

Officers suspect the driver of an Acura sedan, Brandon Doty, 20, of Hopland, was traveling too fast as he approached a curve, then struck a wood gate post and metal gate, causing the car to overturn, Pohl said.

Passenger Tyler Shepard, whose name and city of residence weren’t in the initial report, was flown to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital because of a “complaint of pain,” Pohl said. Doty was reportedly uninjured.
