Sonoma to examine changes to rent control ordinance
Tenants in Sonoma have long complained that city regulations aimed at controlling rents in mobile home parks aren’t stringent enough and allow the cost of leasing a pad to escalate. They want city officials to make it more difficult for mobile parks to raise rents.
The Sonoma City Council will look at the existing rent control ordinance and weigh possible changes at a study session on Wednesday. The meeting will start at 3 p.m. at the Sonoma Veterans Memorial Hall on First Street West.
Council members plan to hear from both tenants and mobile park owners and provide city staff with further direction on the changes that need to be made to the rent control regulations. However, no final decisions are expected to be made on the ordinance on Wednesday.
