A Lake County man remains jailed for allegedly chasing people with a machete.

Devin Ray Walker, 23, reportedly became agitated when the landowners of the Upper Lake parcel where he’d set up camp moved his tent and other belongings to the front of the property and told him he had to leave, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The property owners had told Walker several times before that he could not camp on their land but he refused to leave, sheriff’s officials said.

When they moved his belongings, Walker started yelling incoherently and chasing the landowners with the machete, sheriff’s officials said.

When deputies arrived, Walker threw down the machete and fled, swimming across a canal and then running toward the Reclamation Road cutoff. He was apprehended a short time later, about a mile from the initial incident.

Walker was booked into the Lake County jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest and on an unrelated warrant.
