An 18-year-old Boonville man was killed in a single-car crash on Highway 128 near Philo in Mendocino County.

The CHP said a 2003 Toyota Corolla was westbound Wednesday, around 4 p.m., when the driver drifted off the shoulder and struck a tree.

Good Samaritans pulled the driver from the smoking car just before it caught fire, but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

His identity had not yet been released by authorities as of Thursday night.

Alcohol did not appear to be a factor.
