The scheduled closure of a segment of Highway 101 in San Francisco’s Presidio next week has been postponed in order to complete testing and other work, state transportation officials said Friday.

Earlier this month, officials had warned of major traffic jams going in and out of San Francisco due to the planned three-day closure of Doyle Drive while work is completed on the southern access road to the Golden Gate Bridge.

The road was scheduled to be closed from 10 p.m. Thursday through 5 a.m. June 1 as part of a larger makeover of the Presidio Parkway, which includes multiple tunnels and new connections to Highway 1 and Park Presidio Boulevard.

The work replacing Doyle Drive is being done by a group of agencies, including Caltrans, the San Francisco County Transportation Authority and the Federal Highway Administration.

The new date for the closure will depend on when the testing and systems work is completed, inspected and certified by the state fire marshal.
